
With restrictions starting to ease and things starting to open back up again we can finally start to look forward to some sense of normality returning. With cinemas projected to reopen in June, and new release dates being finalised, I wanted to take a look at some of the films we can expect to see in Irish cinemas this summer!
A Quiet Place Part II

Release Date: 3rd June
The sequel to John Krasinski's 2018 film, which was one of the first films to be delayed because of the pandemic, will finally land in Irish cinemas this June. The film follows the Abbott family as they venture from their home in search of other survivors whist trying to avoid detection by creatures who hunt by sound.
Starring: Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy Djimon Hounsou, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe.
In The Heights

Release Date: 18th June
Based on the Lin-Manuel Miranda broadway musical of the same name, In The Heights follows the lives of the residents of Washington Heights, and charming bodega owner Usnavi (Anthony Ramos) who dreams of a better life.
Starring: Anthony Ramos, Corey Hawkins, Leslie Grace, Melissa Barrera, Olga Merediz, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Gregory Diaz IV, Jimmy Smits, Stephanie Beatriz, Dascha Polanco and Lin-Manuel Miranda
Black Widow

Release Date: 9th July
Set between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, the film follows the MCU's first female heroine, Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) whilst on the run and as she returns to her native Russia and reconnects with figures from her past.

F9 (Fast and Furious 9)

Release Date: 8th July
The ninth installment of the Fast and Furious franchise arrives in cinemas this July. In the film, Jakob (John Cena), Dominic Toretto's younger brother, is hired by Cipher (Charlize Theron) to take down Dom and his team.
Starring: Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodroguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Charlize Theron, John Cena.
Space Jam: A New Legacy

Release Date: 16th July
Both a sequel and a remake of the classic 1996 film starring Michael Jordan, NBA star Lebron James takes the lead and reteams with Bugs Bunny and the rest of the Looney Tunes.
Starring: Lebron James, Don Cheedle, Zendaya, Sonequa Martin-Green.
Jungle Cruise

Release Date: 30th July
Based on the Disneyland ride of the same name, the film follows the passengers of a small riverboat who are taken through a jungle filled with dangerous animals and reptiles.
Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Jack Whitehall, Edgar Ramirez, Jesse Plemons.
The Suicide Squad

Release Date: 30th July
In what must be a record for the quickest remake in cinema history, just 5 years after the release of the much panned Suicide Squad, Warner Brothers will be hoping that Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker James Gunn can bring his MCU success to the DCEU as he takes the helm to retell the story of the team of supervillains turned heroes.
